about me

My name is Amalie Kirstine, and no I will not tell you my full name. I was born on the 6th of April 1999, and if you aren't good at math, that makes me 17 years old.

I got my first camera 6 or 7 years ago (??), after I kept using my mum's old, worn out digital pocket camera. It was a small, grey pocket camera, an Olympus VG-120 and I absolutely adored it. For a couple of years, the digital zoom and limited control was enough. Then just after new years 2013 I found my dad's Olympus E-410 DSLR and started actually researching for ways to improve my photography, and in May 2013 I bought my beloved Nikon D3200. Because of a limited budget, but a desire for a large focal range, I bought it with the 18-105mm lens instead of the default 18-55mm. It seems a bit heavy at times, but it's just a matter of habituation. Would not recommend for travel use in Canada though. Not very handy.

I am on a constant journey of learning when it comes to photography, and it feels great to look back at old photos and see how I've improved. I started learning Photoshop and Lightroom in the summer of 2013, but I'd tried some stuff at pixlr.com/editor on beforehand. Every now and then I get completely taken aback by all the possibilities in Photoshop, and I find it amazing, that even now - 3 years later - I probably still don't know how to properly use half the tools. Possibly because I've never actually bought Photoshop, but had a bunch of free trials on and off.

Outside photography my interest include music. Not as in "I love music" - of course I love music too - but as in I play the violin, and have played for almost 10 years. I mostly play classical but I'm also very into folk, love me some folk. I get extremely nervous if I have to play solo or accompanied by a piano, wherefore my preferred setting is currently in an orchestra.
I spent the school year 14/15 on a boarding school for classical music and it has been the best year of my life.
I am able to play the piano decently as well - I know chords, I can kind of read the sheet music (darn you bass clef) - and I'm currently trying to learn how to play the ukulele. The reason I chose ukulele was because I was annoyed that I couldn't reach the chords on the guitar, because my hands really aren't very big and I hate effort. I'm still really trying to play the guitar but...

About year and a half ago I decided to pick up drawing, which turned out as a positive experience. I have always loved painting, but hadn't ever quite gotten the hang of drawing. I kind of have now, but not really. I can draw a decent face and occasionally a body. I'm not really that into drawing, but you know, it's fun. I haven't had the guts to try colouring anything yet though.
Concerning the painting, I don't do it very often, but every now and then I'll pick up a brush and some paint, whether it be acrylic or watercolour. I kinda suck at watercolour too though.

Other interest include, movies, books, tv series, crying about fictional characters, fictional lesbians, tumblr, books, blogging, tv series, fall out boy and books.

Last but not least, I am a nerd who loves Josefin Slab, Baskerville and Georgia and frequently uses Comis Sans MS ironically. I also have my own bad, bad handwriting as a font on my computer.

Side note: I don't know how to do English commas, I just place them wherever and hope for the best. You're also very welcome to ask questions. pls. im lonely
